IMPORTANT NEWS REGARDING YOUR 0870 NUMBER

Following 2 years of consultation Ofcom, the telecoms industry regulator, at the end of April 2009 advised that in the interest of the consumer they will be implementing changes to the charging of 0870 with effect from 1 August 2009.

The benefit to the consumer is that it will be cheaper to call 0870 numbers, however the company using the number will have to PAY to receive calls on their 0870 number.  With effect from 1 August 2009 calls received on Eurolink 0870 numbers will be charged at 4ppm.

We would therefore recommend that you consider NOW implementing an additional NTS to run alongside your current 0870 number so that you limit the additional costs that are to be applied. Then you will be able to gradually make the necessary changes to your literature and livery in order to phase the 0870 out of your business.

Eurolink can offer you alternative NTS numbers such as 0844, 0845, 03 numbers.  A range starting with 0871/2/3 is available but these ranges fall under the PhonepayPlus regulation.

We can also provide announcement to be played to callers when they dial the old 0870 number.  The announcement will advise callers of the new number which should be dialled.  This simple and effective solution has the following benefits:

  1. Minimises new inbound call charges on the 0870 from 1st August 2009
  2. Educates callers to start using the new contact number
  3. Optional call statistic package to ascertain when callers are no longer dialling the 0870 enabling you to determine when to cease the old number

If you wish to discuss your options please call us on 08450 755 500.

VODAFONE NEW ROAMING CHARGES

To adhere to new EU regulations and limit shock bills Vodafone have made changes which will make it easy for you or your employees to keep control of your costs when travelling abroad.

New Text Message Notification - When you land in a foreign country you will receive a text outlining your data charges.

New Capped SMS Charge when travelling in Europe - The price of sending a text whilst roaming in European countries has been reduced.  The new rate to send an SMS will be 9.7p; this is down from 19p.

New change to minimum call duration - When roaming the 1 minute minimum call charge has now been reduced to a 30 second minimum charge, after which a per second increment will apply.

Receiving calls - when you receive a call in the EU they are billed per second - so no change to current charges.

New Data Roaming Charges - As well as sending a welcome SMS with data charging details to alleviate the risk of shock bills, Vodafone are introducing a simpler, more cost effective charging method so customers will know exactly how much they will pay when using their device abroad.  These changes will affect you if you use BlackBerry, Data bundles and/or Mobile Broadband.  Unless you have opted into a tariff with a roaming bundle of usage built in, the new charges will automatically replace the standard per MB roaming charging on all tariffs.

Below are the new rates and how they work:

Handheld Charging   Europe Zone
(Zone 1)
Rest of the World
(Zone 2)
Including:
Blackberry
Mobile Internet
Mobile Data
Mobile Applications
First 25MB Up to £4.25 Up to £12.75
Every 25MB
thereafter
£4.25 £12.75

Laptop Charging   Europe Zone
(Zone 1)
Rest of the World
(Zone 2)
Mobile Broadband First 50MB £8.50 £25.50
Every 50MB
thereafter
£8.50 £25.50

The data sessions are calculated per day.  A day is counted from midnight to 11.59pm UK time.  A session starts when a customer first accesses data and will be counted until either the end of the data session or the end of the day.

How does this compare to what you have paid previously?
“Up to” means you will pay £4.25 per MB in 1KB steps for your first MB in the Europe zone with the remaining 24MB for free.  In the Rest of the World zone you will pay £4.25 per MB in 1KB steps for your first 3MBs with the remaining 22MB for free, providing great savings to your bill.

In the near future you will receive further SMS notifications informing you when it approaches midnight GMT and also when you have gone over your first inclusive data.

Laptop usage will be charged on the first connection.  Average laptop usage is 22MB per day so very few users will be charged more than £8.50 in Europe.  Huge savings can be found in the Rest of the World Zone, an average day would have cost £93.50 at the old per MB charge, a potential saving of £68 per day.
